The A1 light motorcycle licence is designed for people aged 17 or above who only want to ride a scooter/moped or motorbike with a maximum engine size of up to 125cc.
Many people consider the A1 licence as a so called ‘permanent CBT', with the added privilege of being able to use motorways, and carry pillion passenger's.
You can take your A1 Light Motorcycle test on either a manual or an automatic motorbike. If you choose take your test on a manual motorcycle and pass, you can then ride either automatic scooters/mopeds or manual motorbikes. However if you decided to pass your test on an automatic, you will be limited to only automatic motorbikes and scooters.
Requirements
In order to book your A1 light motorcycle practical test, you must first of all sit and pass the motorcycle theory test, as once you have passed this you are issued with a theory certificate number which is needed to book your practical test.
You will also be required to have a valid licence (this may be in the form of provisional licence, or full car licence, which automatically carries provisional entitlement for you to ride motorcycles). You must also have a current valid CBT certificate, however, if you do not already have a CBT certificate or it has expired, we can include your CBT training as part of your course .
Courses
At 1 Stop we offer a range of A1 motorcycle course's to suit each individuals needs and requirements. We understand that not everyone may have a CBT, and that some people may require more training than others. Likewise, some people may wish to take the A1 test on their own bike to help with the financial costs. It really doesn't matter to us, as our courses are flexibly designed with you in mind.
The Test
You will be required to take your test on a bike with an engine size of at least 75cc but not more than 125cc, with the maximum speed being not more than 62.5 mph. If you are unsure about the power or speed of your bike, please refer to the owners manual, or obtain a letter from the manufacturer to confirm.
You will be required to complete both Module 1 and Module 2 in order to successfully pass your test. For more information about the test, and to find out what is involved, please click here.
