The minbus PCV Category D1+E training courses are aimed at those people who already have their Category D1 Minibus Licence, but would like to drive a minibus and tow a trailer over 750kg. The ability to be able to tow a trailer with your minibus is particulary useful, as if your minibus is full with passengers, their is invariably room for luggae, making a trailer an ideal solution to this problem. You may also want to tow other trailers such as boats, or horse boxes, making the D1+E licence an essential. Once you pass your PCV D1+E Minibus test, you will then be awarded Category D1+E onto your driving licence which will allow you to drive any minibus with up to 21 seats for hire & reward with a trailer above 750kg.
PCV Minibus & Trailer (Category D1+E) Requirements
In order to attend our PCV D1+E (Minibus and trailer towing) training courses, you must have first passed your Category D PCV Minibus test. There is no theory test required for the D1+E test, however you must ensure that you have Category D1+E provisional entitlement stated on the paper counterpart of your driving licence. You will also need to ensure that your existing PCV Category D1 entitlement is still valid, and has not expired, as candidtaes over the age of 45 will nedd to renew their PCV medical examination every 5 years for their PCV Cat D1 Licence entitlement to remain valid.
D1+E Minibus & Trailer Towing Courses In East London
We offer a range of D1+E minibus & Trailer PCV coursesto accomodate drivers with different levels of experience. All of our PCV D1+E courses are provided on a 1-2-1 basis, ensuring that you receive 100% of the instructors attention without the pressure of any other observers. It is this 1-2-1 LGV training by our fully qualified DSA approved trainiers which leads to our superb first time pass rate. Our training days consist of 4 hours training each day, with all 4 hours being spent by you at the wheel, and not spent with unecessary "coffee breaks" or "lunch breaks" which many other schools use as a tactic to reduce your training time.
Many other schools will offer you an 8 hour training day, which may sound like good value on the face of it, but the 8 hour day is not on a 1-2-1 basis, and the driving time is shared with another pupil, meaning you spend half the time squeezed in a drivers cab waiting for your turn to drive and effectively wasting half your day. The other problem with the 8 hour days provided by other LGV training schools in East London is that many of theses training schools will introduce lunch breaks into this 8 hour day meaning that you are not receiving your full time driving/practicing that you are paying for. The combination of these problems is quite obvious as to why such schools do not have the same extensive pass rate as we pride ourselves on.
Our PCV D1+E / minibus & trailer training courses start off at 20 hours, and are aimed at people who have not recently driven Category D1 minibuses's, or who have no experience towing trailers (with any vehiicle ie Car & Trailer). As with all PCV Training courses, the 20 Hour PCV D1+E Course has been our most popular and successful minibus and trailer towing course. We also do a 16 hour course for those people who have been recently driving Category D1 minibuses , and also a 12 hour course for those who have previous experience driving minibuse PCV's (preferably with a trailer) or for those who have previously driven C1+E Vehicles (7.5 tonne & trailer) or very experienced with car and trailer towing combinations (Category B+E).
Your training will be split up into 4 hour sessions provided on a 1-2-1 basis, which will include your practical test on the final day of your course. 4 hours will be allocated on your test day which will include a 2 hour pre-test warm up, 1 and half hours for the test itself, and half an hour transit time back to the depo.
Please remeber when deciding which D1+E training course would suit you best, that if you try to select a shorter minibus with trailer / PCV Category D1+E cousre to try to save yourself money, you may not pass your D1+E test first time, and may end up spending more money on re-tests than if you selected the most appropriate course for your skill level in the first place. If you are unsure about which minibus & trailer course would suit you best, then please contact our office where we will be more than happy to listen to the experience you have and help you make an appropriate choice.

D1+E Minibus With Trailer Test
The PCV D1+E minibus test will be taken in the same vehicle in which you do your training in. The test starts off with the examiner asking you some vehicle safety questions, and is immeadiatly followed by the reversing excercise. You then proceed to spend the next 50 minutes - 1 hour driving on the public road, going over through the test routes you would have practiced during your training. During this time on the road the PCV examiner will assess your ability to interact with other road users along. Upon returning to the test centre, the examiner will ask you to unhitch & then re-hitch your trailer as the final part of your test.
Once you have successfully passed your PCV Category D1+E practical test, you will then obtain a Category D1+E, and also Category B+E on your driving licence which will entitle you to drive a minibus with up to 21 seats (including drivers seat) with a trailer over 750kg, and you will also receive Category B+E ( car with a trailer over 750kg), as the Category D1+E superceeds category B+E.
